6th, 7th & 8th English Homework

  • Assignments Weeks of April 6 -17

    Hello!

    You are expected to complete assignments on Monday (4/6) -  Wednesday (4/8) and then we are off for Holy Thursday and Good Friday to prepare our hearts and minds for Easter.  

    I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow, Monday (4/6) on Google Meet.  Please look for the PIN on our Google classroom in advance of our scheduled time which will be:

    Grade 6 at 11:00.

    Grade 7 at 11:35

    Grade 8 at 12:05

    Here are your assignments:

    Grade 6:

    Spelling:  Unit 26.  Complete pages 162, 163, and 165.  By Tuesday, April 14:  Choose 10 of your spelling words and use them in a complete sentence with at least 7 words.  Attach them to Google classroom under "Assignments."

    Reading:  Finish Devil's Arithmetic.  Complete comprehension questions for Chapters 14 - Epilogue by April 14.

    Grade 7:

    Spelling:  Unit 26.  Complete pages 162, 163, and 165.  By Tuesday, April 14:  Choose 10 of your spelling words and use them in a complete sentence with at least 7 words.  Attach them to Google classroom under "Assignments."

     

    Reading:  We have finished Anne Frank.  Due 4/13:  Read Into Thin Air  by John Krakauer.  Answer questions 1-4 on page 192.  Attach them to our Google classroom assignment.  Tomorrow, I'll introduce the story and the vocabulary.  Have your Literature text ready and open to page 190.  I'll also do a read aloud.  If any of you have questions, please let me know!  I'm happy to meet with you one on one or in a small group.

     

    Grade 8:

    Reading:

    Re-read Flowers for Algeron.  In a one paragraph essay, due 4/13, answer the question:  What can scientists learn from failed experiments.  The paragraph must be at least 8 sentences.  Attach it to the Google classroom Assignments page.  If you need help, small group or one or one, please reach out to me through Google classroom.  I am happy to help in any way, by answering questions or doing a Google Meet.

    The COVID-19 crisis has put a stop to many of the manufacturing and transportation activities around the world.  Research what effect this has had on the global climate and environment.  Write a three paragraph essay citing specific examples of the impact this event has had on the world

  • Service Project

    In an effort to keep up our service to the sisters at the St. Joseph Villa, I am asking the 6th, 7th and 8th grades to please make an Easter card (or more than one) and send it to the sisters at the Villa.  Address the card: Dear Sister,  and add an Easter message or picture.  Let them know that we are praying for them. It may be made on computer paper, construction paper, even a note on loose leaf paper will work.

  • 6,7,8 Holy Week newspaper article

    Pretend you are a newspaper reporter back int the time of Jesus. Choose one of the following events on which to write a newspaper article: the Last supper, the Happenings in the Garden of Gethsemane, the Crucifixion,  the Resurrection or the Appearances to the Apostles. Write it first person as if you are there observing it.  Use ONE of the following Gospels to help gather your information: Matthew, chapters 26 to 28, Mark chapters 14 to 16, Luke chapters 22 to 24 or John chapters 18 to 19. Due Wednesday 4/8.
